A very underrated place in Al Ain, Wadi Adventure is a great way to spend a day for the active and venturesome. I would say it is a little secret that the UAE has hidden well because very few know that this is a place where you can enjoy white water rafting, kayaking and surfing. The park boasts of a 3.3 meter manmade surf wave and a 1.7 km kayaking channel. The highlight of the park, however, is the white water rafting with 3 different levels of rapids, catering to all levels of rafters. The experience is so authentic that you do not feel like you are rafting on an artificially created channel.

A lot of people visiting the UAE do not know the beauty that lies beyond the city of Dubai. Take a break from the bustling city and travel to the beautiful Hajjar Mountains, a stark contrast in landscape from the tall skyscrapers and the desert surrounding the UAE. Hatta is a small quiet town, about 2 hours away from Dubai, flanked by the mountains and home to several wadis or river beds, through which you can cruise in a 4x4 vehicle.

Tucked away on Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Road, it is hard to imagine this extremely non-descript seafood haven amidst the city’s lavishness and grandiose. A popular haunt for residents of Dubai, Bu Qtair is simplicity at its best. Characterized by long queues, an unusual seating process and most of all the freshest seafood, Bu Qtair has been a part of this evolving city for over 2 decades.

Although not as popular as its formidable competitor, At the Top Burj Khalifa, the Observation Deck at 300 in Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi offers equally incredible views of the capital of the UAE. It’s free entry for the guests staying at the Jumeirah Hotel and a minimal charge for the visitors - very reasonable for the gastronomical experience it offers.

The floor to ceiling windows overlook the entire city – its majestic coastline with turquoise waters and white sands , the modern buildings and the vast desert. Probably a good place to capture some of the best Abu Dhabi sunsets over its skyline, you can also enjoy a delectable afternoon tea with an extensive selection of sandwiches, cakes and of course, tea. And not to forget, the extremely hospitable, courteous and friendly staff that pays attention to your dietary requirements. The place is recommended for its trendy setting, excellent views and well presented scrumptious snacks.

A fascinating journey all the way from Al Ain city to the pinnacle of Jebel Hafeet mountain, the second highest peak in the UAE, is best taken in the afternoon, allowing you enough time to sip on a hot beverage as you watch the beautiful sun set beyond the majestic rocky hills. The winding roads will take you to the top, 4,000 feet above the sea level, in less than an hour and you will be intrigued by the serenity and peace once you’re at the peak.

Undoubtedly one of the most fun experiences for sea food lovers in Dubai, you’ll be taken by surprise when you enter this floating restaurant. A relaxed setting on a dhow moored over the waters at the Dubai International Marine Club, you will be offered aprons to wear and handed over hammers to crack the crab shells at Aprons and Hammers, in the Mina Seyahi Beach Resort.

It is true that Dubai has no dearth of activities for the true adventure seekers – and this new water sporting activity will not disappoint the adrenaline junkies. Put yourselves in Ironman’s shoes this weekend because you can fly above the water now with Flyboard Dubai.

Although it might take some time for the first timers to get comfortable with balancing on the wakeboard while it is propelled up to 10 meters above the water, through two pipes linked to a Jetski turbine, once you get the confidence and learn to balance, you can fly, turn, dive like a dolphin and try some tricks of your own.

For the braver, there is also Hoverboarding – a very new concept that has been introduced in Dubai only recently. In this, not only can you fly in the air, but you also move forward, up and down, as if you are surfing in the air – an activity not for the faint hearted. If you love the ocean and have a passion for adventure, there’s no better experience than this!

Here’s a gastronomical journey you must take in Dubai - a traditional Emirati meal at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding. Located in one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Dubai, in Al Bastakiya, the experience is complete with a variety of local dishes made by the Beduoins, in a wind-towered house amidst winding lanes and the presence of an Emirati host who will answer all your questions related to the culture, customs and religion of this region.
