Coastal Trek The drive from Muscat to Sur via the village of Quriyat is adventurous and offers fabulous views of sparkling white beaches covered with multi coloured shells, deep ravines, cliffs that fall dangerously into azure seas, rocks sculpted by wind and waves and lush green wadis (river beds).
• A stop at Bimah Sinkhole, a natural crater filled with water that was formed in limestone by a collapse of large cave chamber; the blue green lake is a beautiful landmark
• A visit to Wadi Tiwi, arguably one of the most beautiful wadis in Oman, cut deep into the mountains offering a view with spectacular rock formations, palm trees and natural pools
• A visit to the coastal town of Sur, with an attractive corniche, two forts, excellent beaches nearby and a long history of dhow-building. A drive through the labyrinth of streets reveals many fine old houses with carved doors and arabesque windows
• A chance to visit a dhow wharf, where they still build the wooden dhows in a traditional way
• A visit to the fishing village of Quriyat, which was a major port centuries ago
